Botox and Daxxify are both neuromodulators (also called wrinkle relaxers) that work by temporarily reducing communication between a nerve and a muscle. When we make facial expressions (like frowning, raising the eyebrows, or squinting), nerves send signals to certain muscles to contract. Over time, repeated muscle movement contributes to dynamic lines such as:

• forehead lines
• frown lines (“11s”) 
• crow’s feet

Botox and Daxxify help soften these lines by temporarily relaxing the targeted muscle activity.

What happens at the nerve-muscle junction?

Your nerves communicate with muscles at a tiny connection point called the neuromuscular junction.

Normally:

1. A nerve releases a chemical messenger called acetylcholine
2. Acetylcholine binds to the muscle
3. The muscle contracts (moves)
    

Botox and Daxxify work by blocking the release of acetylcholine at the treated area. This means the targeted muscle contracts less strongly, which helps the overlying skin look smoother and reduces the appearance of expression lines.

Why are results temporary?

Over time, the nerve endings recover and form new signaling connections, allowing muscle activity to gradually return. That’s why treatment effects wear off and maintenance treatments are needed to keep results. This is also why treatment plans can be adjusted over time based on your goals and how your body responds.

Botox vs. Daxxify: biologically, what’s similar?

Both Botox and Daxxify are injectable neuromodulators that:

What makes Daxxify different?

Daxxify works on the same nerve-muscle pathway, but it has a different formulation design (peptide-baased) compared with traditional botulinum toxin products. In simple terms, the active ingredient still reduces muscle signaling, but the product is formulated differently, which may contribute to differences in how it performs for some patients (typically lasting longer than botox).  Some patients do very well with Botox, some prefer Daxxify, and others choose based on treatment goals, budget, or how long they want results to last.
